Aika Revisited

I’ve been a horror town fan for almost as long as I’ve actually played ACNL. In fact, Aika was the first dream town I ever went to. So when I heard it’d been updated, I decided to make it my first updated dream town to visit, too.

We all know the story, so I’m mostly just going to focus on the new stuff. I’m also going to put this under a Read More in case people don’t want said new stuff spoiled for them.

Here’s the new Dream Address, though:

2043

…So we’ve gone ahead 31 years now. Huh.

It starts off just the same as before. And I’ve done everything in my power to make the following picture look good, but some pictures just won’t cooperate with you. Jerks.

Also, I’d like to point out that the villagers have changed, and I either have, have had, want, or know someone who has had about 80% of them. Seriously, that might have been the most surreal part of this visit.

Anyway, I didn’t take any pictures, but the first house is pretty much the same as it was before. Well, maybe there’s a new item or two in there, but I didn’t really notice. The maze is also pretty similar. I didn’t get a shovel, so I couldn’t tell you if anything interesting was buried in there, but I do know that the wetsuit is right out in the open in front of Re-Tail now. I’m also proud to say I fell in no pitfall seeds–

*flash forward to when I was leaving the town*

crap

DAMMIT.

Ahem.

Didn’t get a picture of this, either, but the annoying maze in the second house is now much easier thanks to the ability to sit on floor cushions. YAY.

dat-wallpaper

I’d theorize about the symbolism in this room, what with all the dolls having their picnic together and poor Aika only getting a rotten turnip, but I was too busy staring longingly at that wallpaper. I’ve even turned up the brightness in this picture so you can see it more clearly.

Wallpaper…

WALLPAPER!!!

And yes, I did steal a white carnation just so I could have some kind of hair accessory. I refuse to be unfashionable in dream towns.

dem-clocks

I had to laugh at the inclusion of these owl clocks, because I’ve had my share of experiences with them. I can see why they’d make it into a creepy dream town… In fact, I’m surprised I’ve never seen them in any other horror towns. Maybe because half of them are too focused on having as many fake blood patterns as possible.

Also, I want those Santa sacks. 😦

dat-money

I…forgot those stacks of money were in this game now. I need to find out who gives them out so I can get some.

magical-kitty-room

There’s a new Sanrio-themed room in the third house now, because nothing screams “creepy town” quite like Hello Kitty. Although the random fish lying around everywhere were admittedly weird.

The room in the back was pretty nicely updated unlike a lot of things in this town, with the paper all over the floor and–

WAIT A MINUTE.

whoa

WHAT’S THIS DOING HERE?!

I seriously spent like five minutes adjusting the camera angle and walking around to try to get a better glimpse of that picture. It didn’t work. Oh, and somehow the screenshot I took managed to display the picture better than anything I was trying in the actual game. Go figure.

Upstairs…

guitar

Introducing…THE AIKA GUITAR! Now YOU can jam out to your favorite tunes while having a child’s scribbled drawing of their mother on your guitar! IT’S THE MOMENT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! I’M SURE OF IT!

Also, the lighting in that room is terrible for taking pictures. Sighhhhh.

There’s a new Aika Café downstairs, but I didn’t take a picture of it because I was too miffed that the creator had wasted a perfectly good opportunity to put a doll in there. Seriously, person, the doll is the main attraction of your town! I was looking forward to getting something to eat with a creepy doll staring at me! Let’s just ignore the fact I personally actually like the dollies and have one in my house…

The fourth house was pretty much the same as before except for a couple of new items, but on the beach…and this is the absolute saddest part of the village…

clovers-waaah

LUCKY CLOVERS! AND…THEY’RE NOT IN MY TOWN!!! AND I NEED THEM FOR SOME AREAS AND I’M TOO LAZY TO DUPE THEM AND AND AND…

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Anyway…

*sniff*

Since I didn’t have a shovel (like I said before), I couldn’t tell you what was buried on the private beach. I assume it’s either a creepy skeleton, a dolly, or both. Or maybe I’m making an ASS out of U and ME and it’s actually…a fancy tea set. Or a record player! Or more money!

So that’s Aika. Honestly, it was better before. Now it feels like the creator wanted to copy all the horror towns where you can’t tell WTF is going on. Hopefully Hitokui will be better if that one ever comes back…
